The hunting ground of Fishery Hluboka cz. s.r.o. is located in the scenic foothills of the Bohemian Forest (Šumava) in the area surrounding the Dehtář pond at the rim of the Budweiss basin (Budějovická pánev). The hunting ground has a total size of 513 ha and comprises arable land, meadows, pastures, forest soils, water areas and other areas.

Fishery Hluboka cz. s.r.o. performs game management for the purpose of commercial shooting of aquatic feather game. The attractiveness of the hunting is increased by breeding of mallards at the ponds Nový u Čakova, Zběhov and Posměch. The animals being haunted in this haunting ground are as follows: red fox, crow, magpie, great cormorant, woodpigeon, geese, coot, mallard, common pochard, and tufted duck.

Hunting mallards

The hunting of mallards is conducted in three ponds and in several drives. The size of the ponds is 3, 10 and 50 hectares, respectively. The hunting is performed mostly from hunting sites built on the water surface; the hunters are taken to these hunting sites by boats. The optimal number of hunters is 6 to 14 (most preferably 10). The quantity of the mallards shot depends on the shooting abilities of the hunters because hunting of mallards is more difficult than hunting of pheasants (flying velocity, different height, weather, or wind), and whether the hunting is organized at the beginning or at the end of the season.

The hunting proceeds in accordance with the usual habits and traditions of Czech hunting, which means after the arrival and inspection of the documents and identity cards, the hunters line up along with the personnel and dog handlers to the sounds of Dyk’s Hunting Fanfare. Then the hunters are taken to the hunting sites where the hunt begins. The drives take turn and the ducks shot are searched for by gun-dogs.

A lunch break is held during around noon in the natural scenery of the hunting ground near the pond where the hunt takes place. After the refreshment the hunters show for additional drives. After the end of the hunt and searching of the game shot, the traditional game bag and call off ceremonies follow, along with fanfares and announcement of the king of the shoot.

Accommodation is available in hotels either in Hluboka nad Vltavou, or in České Budějovice. The distance from the hunting ground is 20 km.

Production of mallard ducklings

The company Fishery Hluboka cz. s.r.o. produces ducklings from mallards originating from a recognized and well established breed. Part of the ducklings is introduced into the hunting grounds and part of them is sold to customers at the age of 7, 14, and 21 days.

Mallard

Mallard is the most common and economically most important duck of the Czech Republic. Mallards are typical inhabitants of most of our ponds, water reservoirs, and slowly running waters. The main factor for the occurrence of mallard is the character of water surfaces, where the vegetation must be sufficient to create thick vegetation for daily shelter and sufficient number of shallow places providing the possibility for nutrition. Mallards feed mostly on insects, plants, mollusks, or hard bread. During the nidification, they form a temporary couples and the female hatches 7 to 15 ducklings after 25 to 30 days. Outside Czech Republic, mallards live throughout the entire Europe, Asia, North America and Africa.
